started with the Sliding Hatch

This morning I started with laminating inside the fridge and fill the holes with PUR. In the afternoon we did bring Thrill Seeker to the winter storage. We than transported the sliding hatch mold home to shed. This is the same mold as I had used for Thrill Seeker. The first part is put some carbon tape in on the edges, this will be part as were the hatch will slide on later.

rounded the edges of the coamings

This morning I started with removing the tube for the fridge, because this was to small for both the cool pipes. I place a bigger one 40mm and I placed also the same tube behind the fridge. This one can be use for all kinds of wire. After that was fixed I grind and rounded the edges of the coamings and put some putty on one side to fill a dent. In the afternoon I picked Thrill Seeker up from the harbor. We place it to morrow on its winter storage.

Taped the inside of the front coamings

On the end of the day I did a small job again. This time I did the inside of the front coamings, this is a relatively small job but you have to do it with a mirror and a flashlight laminating in a small area around the corner and this makes it not easy. I finally taped two pieces on the outside what was easy.

Glued the front coaming tops in place

I started this morning to unpack yesterday's work under supervision of my dad who gave me a visit to inspect the progress. When my dad did leave I dremeled all the sharp edge away inside the coaming because I could easily access them before the tops are in place. I then glued them in place. In the afternoon I did some small jobs on the fridge again as making an access pipe for the cool pipes, a bottom of corecell because this has more density and is smoother and a top panel were the cool element is coaming under. This panel will be glued in as the inside is laminated. On top of this panel comes the 5 cm blue Styrofoam again.

laminated the mast support web

I started this morning with the fridge to glue another piece of foam in it. I than started with preparing for laminating the support web so as cutting carbon, peel ply, breather cloth, vacuum foil and putting tacky tape. In the afternoon we put the two layers biaxial carbon, four layers UD and two layers biaxial carbon again. In the begin we could not get enough vacuum bus after some work on the tacky tape the vacuum did get up and I could screw the vacuum back to -0,7 Bar. On the end I sanded the access holes for the bunks.

Thrill Seeker out of the water

Today I did not build on the boat but we took Thrill Seeker out of the water and cleaned the bottom with high pressure water. Normally we cleaned it on the begin of the season but this is much easier.
Tomorrow we go building again.

I quit a little early from work to glue the mast support web in place with HD putty. After that I made the final Styrofoam panel for the fridge and glued some in place.

started with the fridge

This morning the work of yesterday was still a bit sticky so I decided to make the mast support web. This is made of four layers 10 mm HD foam glued together with PU glue. I than started on the bottom of the fridge made from two 5 cm layers Styrofoam so I have bicker flat bottom. I glued them on the bottom and together also. In the afternoon I started with the position the organisers and drilling the holes. Carbon has one disadvantage that you can not see were the HD pieces are, gladly I had taken pictures of the HD pieces were I had positioned them. Next was drawing the position of the jib sheet tracks. I then switched to the sides of the fridge, still one side to go. I finally trimmed the mast support web.

Taping inside bunks and coamings

In the morning Fetske started to Dremel access hole edges while I was cutting some carbon tape for the inside of the bunks. I also drilled out the screw holes so they can be filled with putty. In the afternoon we taped the inside of the bunks, they were now accessible true the access holes. The next job was to tape the inside front of the coamings. This was not easy because I had to do it on feeling because I could not look inside. We than started with filling the edges with putty. I finally measured out the place where the mast base must come and drilled the holes. I used the beam mount mold to determine the place.

some new metal work

I started this morning with cutting some carbon for taping the comings and then cut some access holes in the bunks, this did took the rest of the morning. In the afternoon I went to the metal shop of a friend of my. His shop Stainless Products makes also the foil and rudder systems for the GC32 . They made the mast base and all the metal work for the beams. I bevel the edges and then they will be anodized later.

cut access hole in front of coaming

I quit a couple hours from work to do some little work on the coamings, first I made the front top panel to fit and I then decided how the access hole must be. It took some time to draw the line and to place the exact spot for the hole saw. At last I cut the end pieces from some of cut carbon pieces.

I started in the morning to cut and grind the tops in shape and as last I took the router to round the edges. In the afternoon I cut some access holes in the sides so I have a little storage later for a winch handle and for now more room to tape the inside. The next thing to do is to glue the after sides in place and still have the do the front side the same way.

I started with unpacking yesterday's work, I had to cut the edges to get rid of the excess carbon. I than cut some carbon to glue the top with the foam what I did earlier to fill the tops. I used some screws to hold the tops in place when I glued them on top. In the afternoon I  placed a side panel for the kitchen cupboard and did gives the backrest some extra strength.

put the backrest in place

I start this morning to make some planks to get the same angle of the backrest as the other, I than glued and tape the back of the backrest. After that I cut the tops of the coming of HD foam. In the afternoon I cut all the necessary stuff to do some vacuum yob of the kitchen panel and the HD foam tops. I came also to the conclusion that I run out of the 400gr carbon, so I did take some extra layers 300gr on the HD tops. After I did vacuum on the table I inspected the backrest and it was already settled so I could take the planks away and taped the front of it also.

taped the inside of the bunk

I took a hour free from work to do a small job. I started with taping the other side of the backrest and I then did the inside of the bunk, this is no easy job because you have to work in a small narrow space but in the end I was satisfied. I still have to do the bottom but that is for next time and gravity is not fighting against me than.

taped some varios panels

I started this morning with glue some pieces to the comings and filled the top with some foam what will be later used as gluing edge for the top panels.
In the afternoon I made a mold to glue and tape the backrest panels together on the same angle as the other one. After that I taped the outside of the step up, the footrest and a part of the bunk top edge.
